Gay Spirit Culture Summit which took place April 29 - May 2, 2004)

Gay Spirit Culture Summit
Join us in changing the conversation about what it means to be gay. Help us create authentic, caring, compassionate community. Help us share our unique gifts and our strengths as spiritual beings. Help us transform gay culture.

Within the gay community, there is an emerging culture that is positive, loving, respectful, present and caring. Small communities of men with these values have been spontaneously forming over the past decade. Their members have connected with men in deep, authentic ways that have increased self-esteem, deepened relationships and led them to make healthier choices. It is satisfying a yearning for purpose, meaning & passion in their lives.

The Gay Spirit Culture Project is a network of groups shifting consciousness in the gay community and raising visibility of transformational experiences in order to change the conversation about what it means to be gay. There is a need for healing and for being together in a safe haven where we can see, hear and touch each other’s hearts and souls. We need an alternative to the bar culture, unsafe sex, body obsession, alcohol, drug & sex addiction and other destructive behaviors. We need to transform negative messages we have heard about being gay into self-love, strength, compassion and wisdom. The Gay Spirit Culture Project uplifts a new way of being.

Through spiritual & social action and by being with each other on deeper levels, this work is changing norms in the gay world toward a positive, caring, authentic, safe, respectful community that supports each individual in being himself or herself and valuing her or his uniqueness, strengths and inner wisdom.

Our mission is to be a catalyst for positive, caring gay culture by supporting inner transformation, increasing definition & visibility of the emerging culture and changing what it means to be gay.

We will hold our first summit April 29 – May 2, 2004 at The Garrison Institute with leaders and change agents working in the area of gay spiritualities, deep gay community and positive gay culture. One hundred men of diverse ethnic backgrounds will meet to strategize how to make this work available and visible to more men and how to have a larger impact on overall gay culture.

Our intention is to leave the summit with action steps and dedicated follow-up resources to get things done. We are committed to going beyond talk and ideas in order to make a difference. Through collaborative action, we will achieve our common goals.

Partnership Opportunity
We seek committed partners who share this vision of a positive, loving, respectful, caring, deeply connected gay culture. We will communicate with partners regularly as the project develops. A small group has come forward with seed money for the project. We are actively raising funds from individuals and through grant applications.
