Manifest Love: Finding new ways to be with and for each other.
Manifest Love offers trainings around the country in gay men's spirituality and ethics. The Founders declare their basic beliefs: 1) We aspire to create a more affectionate and loving gay world, that better manifests our most humane values in public and private. 2) We reject a queer culture that says we must compete, that attitude always serves us better than affection, that we need endanger one another, or that we cannot publicly embrace our most loving natures. 3) We affirm and support a robust sexual culture, as we know it's not all of who we are. 4) We know change is possible. As gay men helped build our culture, we can rebuild it. We know taking concrete actions can help us do better with and for each other. 5) We can give ourselves a world that better honors the true values of our hearts. That is the world we want for ourselves, and for each other. We think it is time we gave ourselves the gay lives we truly want.

Unitarian/Universalists
Unitarian Universalism is a liberal religion -- that is, a religion that keeps an open mind to the religious questions people have struggled with in all times and places. UUs believe that personal experience, conscience and reason should be the final authorities in religion, and that in the end religious authority lies not in a book or person or institution, but in ourselves. UUs are a "non-creedal" religion: they do not ask anyone to subscribe to a creed. The Unitarian/Universalist church was the first denomination to accept gays and lesbians in ministry and to fight for gay rights (back in the 1960s!)

Transcendence

I was in a place with a gathering of spirits. I felt the greatest peace, tranquility and ecstasy. I felt a rapture that was beyond a person's imagination. I felt as if I was a part of God. I was mentally communicating and in sync with everyone; all the prophets of the bible, many historical people whom I had read about, many deceased acquaintances and relatives. There was no dominant force, no forceful leader. I somehow knew who everyone was. Every thought was interacted with the whole community. I had no questions; it seemed as if everything was revealed and crystal clear. Other Traditions / New Traditions

SECULAR WHOLENESS
Although not specifically addressing the unique needs of gay men, the purpose of SECULAR WHOLENESS is to support the spiritual quest of anyone who is marginalized or repelled by conventional religion -- so gays and lesbians are certainly included in the target audience.

Orisha Consciousness Movement
This African Yoruba religion recognizes deities with gay specific legends.

Joseph Campbell
Joseph Campbell was not a gay man -- though he lived most of his adult life in an apartment on Waverly Place overlooking Sheridan Square in NY's gay West Village (and, one can imagine, may have watched the Stonewall Riots from his aerie high above the street). He and his wife, the famous dancer and Broadway choreographer Jean Erdman, had no children. Both of them remained free from the constraints of "normal" domesticity in order to focus on their cultural contribution to the evolution of consciousness -- a trait they share with most gay men and lesbians.

Campbell's vision of myth and religion as metaphor for the dynamics of consciousness and personality supports a religious and spiritual attitude that gay people can readily embrace. The pages of White Crane Journal regularly present glimpses into this vision.

White Crane contributing editor, Toby Johnson, was extraordinarily fortunate to have come to know Campbell personally and to carry on a ten year correspondence with him, so that he became the "wise old man" of Toby's spiritual journey.
